Point Bonita & Sausalito

Justin had the great idea of taking a family trip up north today. We had the best time and experienced some of the beauty this wonderful part of California has to offer. We drove through Half Moon Bay along the coast up to San Francisco and then crossed the Golden Gate Bridge. After driving along this narrow windy road that has rolling hills to one side and a steep cliff to the other we made our way almost to the end of the point, named Point Bonita. No cars are allowed past a certain point. It was such a beautiful walk along the oceanside. Jorgen loved every minute of it! We saw what looked like an old boating dock and later learned that this dock used to be used for an emergency crew (somewhat like coast guard) that would lower boats into the water with cables and then go out and save shipwrecked boats. They were brave men that would risk their lives to save others when no one else dared. Shipwrecks were very common until they put in this light house. There is such a neat history behind this place.

When I first met Justin's parents, they took us to Point Bonita but we were unable to go to the light house at the time (it's only open to visitors a few hours a week). We got lucky this time! The door to the tunnel which leads to the light house was opened! We went through and on the other side is an opening where you can look out into the ocean and then there is a bridge....with a sign, "two person limit on bridge." Does that seem to worry anyone else but me? How old is this bridge? Is it safe? Obviously it is because they wouldn't allow people to cross it if it wasn't but it still had me wondering-especially after examining the cables supporting the bridge...rusted rusted and rusted some more! They had park rangers at each opening of the bridge that monitored traffic.

The light house was so neat and Jorgen even spotted a one-legged seagull on the house next to the light house(the other leg was hiding somewhere - don't they sometimes do that?). We took some fun pictures - Jorgen loves to give hugs and kisses:D.

After looking around the light house for awhile, we headed back across the bridge. Jorgen loves airplanes and saw not just the typical commercial airplanes that he's so used to, but one of the older water-landing planes (sorry for the unofficial name). We also saw some beautiful flowers and a few deer.

After being in his car seat and stroller for so long, Jorgen just wanted to run and play and we had fun watching him and playing along. He is so fun to be with and we are constantly being entertained by him. Children are the greatest!

After Point Bonita, we headed to Sausalito. I've always wanted to go there because it sounded so quaint and charming. It really is just that - a cute little town with so much character. The houses are all pleasantly arranged on a very steep hill (maybe they consider it a mountain but come on, I'm used to the Rockies!) and there are unique little shops and restaurants. We enjoyed walking along the peer and streets. This had to be one of the best Saturdays since we've been here. I love my sweet husband and son and all that we are experiences here together!

How Fun! I really admire how you can go out and explore where you live. Not many people take the time to explore their own back yard.

January thro Feb we or our neighbors shoveled our snow every other day. We are ready for some of that California weather. Our drifts are huge, covering some mail boxes. but that was january. Today it was 40 degrees and melting. Jorgen would have loved it!
