98 degrees!

Northern California is supposedly has a moderate climate but that last few days have proven otherwise! It reached 100 degrees outside two days ago and yesterday was about 97 degrees. Well, if you live in an apartment with air conditioning or if you don't have air conditioning but have trees nearby or live on the first floor, you won't feel the effects of the outside heat as much. We, however, have none of those luxuries. Now I know that there are millions in the world who live with such temperatures daily and deal with it just fine - I am a weakling in this department because I like a cool apartment....especially for my children. Jorgen dealt with the heat just fine - other than sweating his little heart out while he played. Little Shelley had a much harder time. Her poor eight day old body just wasn't ready to deal with such temperatures. Her poor little hands and feet broke out with little sweat bubbles and she was so lethargic and sleepy the whole day (not her normal self). She didn't eat like she normally does and I was worried about her. I started putting wet wash cloths on her head and that helped out a ton.

Proof of our apartment reaching an all time high - 98 degrees! It stayed at 98 until about 10pm one night. We took a car ride with the kids because there is no way Jorgen could sleep in that kind of heat and Shelley ate much better when we were in the air conditioned car.

Poor little baby girl!

This is Jorgen after waking up from him nap. Can you tell how wet his hair is? He walked around drenched in his sweat most of the day....but still a happy camper!

Fortunately, some of our friends, the Wheelwrights, let me take the kids to their air conditioned apartment yesterday while they were out and it was such a blessing because our apartment was 96 degrees when we left. After Justin was finished with work, we picked him up and went to another wonderful family's home. The Crowders let us come to their home to not only enjoy a cool place to hang out but also to watch the last Jazz game of the playoffs. Their sweet girls, Emily and Eliza, took such great care of Jorgen and he has so much fun! We didn't get home until 11pm or so but Jorgen was still chipper as a bird! He was happy to be gone from our sauna of an apartment I think. Thank you Crowders and Wheelwrights for being so good to us!

Man! You are a trooper. It was 92 last weekend here in Seattle, and we don't have a/c either, but it was only about 83 in our house. I think I would've been heading to the mall or something!

Anyway, I had heard about the birth of your baby girl, and I'm just now checking her out. She is really cute. Congratulations! By the way, I hope I look as good as your Grandma when I'm 88. That is AMAZING!

The hottest we got last summer was 90 degrees and that was completely unbearable! Do you have any fans? I hope you didn't cook anything!

Just a thought coming from someone that is not usually an alarmist but if it gets that hot again I don't know if you should be there with the kids. Little ones can get dehydrated really easy.
