A Weekend to Remember

Another weekend gone, just ten days until we say good bye to Malaysia!
This picture was taken after we made it back home through a rainstorm. The kids thought it was so fun getting soaked by the rain.

On Friday night, Justin and I got to go on a date. Our friend, Shantelle, came over with her girls and slept over so we could go out. We attended a Stanford GSB Alumni dinner. We were surprised when we got the invitation because we did not know of any GSB alumni in the area. It turned out to be a small group, five of us total, but was such a great evening. It made me so excited to go back to Stanford and have Justin finish up his last year. Stanford is such a great place!
In the morning, the kids had fun playing together and we all had breakfast at the buffet downstairs.
Shantelle and Shells. After we said goodbye to our friends, Justin's boss, Graham, came and picked us up and we headed to Fraiser's Hill. When the British Colonized Malaysia, they founded different hills or highlands that were their escape from the heat. We went from 92 degrees to 75 degrees. It was a nice escape, indeed!
To be so far removed from the heat, you can imagine how high up a mountain you have to be. Now try to imagine the extremely curvy roads it takes to get up to the top of a mountain that high. We all experiences car sickness. I was the first to almost lose it. Dry heaving on the side of a road was not the highlight of the trip! Neither was Jorgen puking ALL over himself and Justin. We did not bring any spare clothes so Jorgen arrived in only his Thomas underwear. Everyone was smiling at his cute little self. We found a gift shop and outfitted Jorgen in the smallest size shirt and shorts, which still drowned him.

We recovered from the car ride and then set out to see what Fraiser's Hill had to offer.

The Paddock was our first stop. The kids had their first horse rides. They both LOVED it!

After three times around, Jorgen was a happy boy.
We also went to Allen's Lake and road in a paddle boat. It was such a pretty ride. The lake had several fingers that we went down and we felt like we were the only ones around for miles.
We had to stop at the local park and the kids loved playing on all the new structures.

Shelley and Graham hanging out on a bench right before we left Fraiser's Hill.
On the way home, the curvy roads had the same effect on the kids. We were more prepared this time so Jorgen's throw up did not get on anyone but happily made it into an empty pretzel bag. Shelley threw up as well but not nearly as much as Jorgen. In fact, it barely fazed her. She was holding a raisen and the second after she threw up, she just popped the raisen back in her mouth. Thankfully, they both fell asleep on the way home.

We finally made it to Chili's for a very tasty dinner. We were all exhausted but had a great Saturday outting, despite the curvy roads.
Shelley loves to use straws. She will drink and drink and drink and then when she has had enough, she will blow bubbles forever!

That must have been some road....good thing Melissa wasn't there, or Rachel for that matter. Those two get car sick readily and sounds like it would have gotten to most anyone. It was really fun seeing a picture of our good friend Graham. Love Jorgen's outfit...I guess the moral of the story is never, ever take a twisty mountain road without a change of clothes for a 3 year old! From 92 to 75 I can see why the British went there. Love you all!

I agree with your Mom...Shelley's expression is absolutely priceless on the teeter totter with Justin. You might want to crop that and blow it up.....daughter and Daddy...

You guys have done so many great things in Malaysia! I love reading about all of your adventures. Sorry for the car sickness. Next time, if there is a next time, try Dramamine or sea bands. Both help my car sickness.

Hi Brenley! Wow, you have been having some adventures! And off to Russia next? Is that also for work?
Enjoy enjoy enjoy. So many people never even leave their state. I'm also amazed at your courage doing this all with 2 kids. My mom flew to Australia with my twin sister and I when we were two - and I worry about a measely 2 hr jet lag!
A quick question though...my sister married a Ugandan and is hoping we'll all visit Uganda next June/July. It's a 3 week trip. We're possibly expecting another child in April, so we're thinking of leaving the kids here in NC and tag teaming it, each for about 10 days. Any advice on bringing/not bringing kids, good ages to bring, shots etc. ???
Have a fabulous rest of your trip! xoxo Serena bluegatehill@yahoo.com
