Excess Baggage

Have you ever ran holding a twenty pound weight for four miles? It isn't any fun, let me tell you! On Saturday I ran for the first time in four years! I wasn't literally holding a twenty pound weight but it felt like that! This is my public declaration that the time has come to shed the excess baggage I've been carrying around since the birth of my darling baby girl. It's only been six weeks but I don't think I can carry this twenty pound weight on many more runs and I want to start running a lot more (totally inspired by my wonderful in-laws who are running machines now! Go Craig and Gloria!). I've been doing Yoga, Pilates, and Body Combat but my body needs a change and that's where running comes in - plus, if my kids continue to like the jogging stroller like they do now - it is a much better work out to run with them strapped in then doing yoga with a toddler climbing all over me;)

So, this picture is me, after my first run. Justin was shocked when he opened the door and saw my face, like a ripened cherry! I didn't chose a very good time or day for a run either - it was 85 degrees at 10am! The reason I chose Saturday for my first run was all because we were out of quarters! Our laundry was in the washers and we had no quarters to dry it so I had the fabulous idea to run to Safeway and get quarters. It was a good idea, except for the added weight the quarters gave on the run home - they got heavier with each step. Ok, I'm done whining! It felt wonderful to get out and I am so grateful that Justin watched the kidlets so I could go. Hopefully this isn't the last you'll hear about my running adventures - Maybe I'll do a race in the near future to get me motivated.

You crack me up, Bren! But I totally know how you feel. I still have an extra 20 pounds on my body from Emma and find I get out of breathe a lot faster on the elliptical machine, whew! Maybe I should start running? Forget it! I will only run if it's during a soccer game (as I'm sure you remember, haha)! Love you! Oh, and I think you look fabulous just the way you are!

What are you talking about?! You have always been the exercise queen! I remember those good old days at 24 Hour Fitness when we could go, run as long as we wanted, whenever we wanted. Oh how our lives (and bodies) have changed. I want to be like you when I grow up. :) Your kids are darling. Jorg cracks me up.

you are such a go getter. I love it. BTW you look GREAT for just being 6 weeks after having a baby. Your amazing. Love you. here is your famous quote to me a while ago " YOU CAN DO IT, BREN YOUR AMAZING AND JUST KNOW THAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO" or something like that. koko is in T's room and its late so i can't listen to it for exact wording. but you get the point :D LOVE YOU

can i say "ONLY 20 POUNDS?" only? that is amazing. you are amazing. way to go. how's that for persistent? insistent? i remember the exercise video you made. you are queen of working out.!

but can i say, i am so happy to see the "mommy calluses"!!! at least my theory is that those knee calluses don't appear until one is a full-fledged mom. mine didn't. one who gets down with her kids and spends time with them. on the floor. crawling, kneeling to chase, playing, etc. emberd thinks mine are "owies". and when i sand them down they are, a bit.

You go woman! I was really good about running when I lived in Utah but I haven't picked it back up since we moved to Seattle...I think it may be time to jump back on the train.

Way to go Bren!! It is definitely a good way to knock off a few pounds. Look at Craig.....down about 35-40 from the mission time. My ankle has been hurt, torn tendons, so be careful and be smart. For me it is the elliptical for the time being!
