Our Favorite Doctor!

Shelley has been having regular eye exams since she was four months old. In the beginning, she was seeing her pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Nyong'o, weekly. So you can imagine how much we absolutely appreciate and adore him. Today, we took both girls in to see Dr. Nyong'o. He wanted to check Elsie's eyes and the lucky girl is cataract free :) Shelley is doing amazingly and we are so happy that her eyes are doing well and her sight is stable and even in both eyes. Because we are moving, today was Shelley's last appointment with Dr. Nyong'o. We are going to miss him! We had to get a picture with him, but all we had was Justin's phone so the quality is not great. But we do not want to forget him and all that he has done for our sweet Shelleybean! He always tells us that Shelley is his favorite patient! She is definitely the patient he sees the most. She always does so well at her appointments and is so cooperative! I remember screaming my head off at eye appointments when I was young, especially when they would put drops in my eyes. Good thing Shelley does not take after me in that way! Shell just lays back and opens up her eye as if she enjoys it. Such a good patient!

Because Shelley is young, the doctors usually use hand held devices to check her eyes but today was the first time they used the stationary one and Shelley was a pro! And despite the look on her face in this picture (again, poor quality but a fun memory nonetheless), she loved it. I am glad she did well because she has many more years of frequent eye exams.
Shelley has been wearing contact lenses since her first surgery at four months old and Dr. Nyong'o told us that at some point she would wear glasses in addition to her contact lenses. Well, today Dr. Nyong'o gave us a prescription for glasses so our Lady Shells will soon be sporting some stylish (and thick!) glasses. She'll be the cutest two year-old in glasses for sure! I hope she likes them. Stay tuned...

I love the photo of Shells and her doc - such a cute expression on her face. She will have years of using the slit lamp. I thought it was fun as a kid too. Can't wait for the pics of her in her glasses - love pink!
