Farm Lovin'

We had the best weekend! We went to our friends', Taryn and Brendon, home in Gridley, California. Taryn's parents own a walnut farm there and we had such a blast with them. There was so much to do and it was so fun hanging out together.

Jorgen loved ridding around in the Hummer! Maybe he'll follow in his uncles foot steps in years to come and love off roading?
Jorgen prepping to do those strongest man contests. How much can you push?
Our first stop was a miniature cracker that one of Taryn's dad's workers made. It was quite impressive. We got to see on a small scale how walnuts are sorted, cracked, and separated.
Us in front of the cracker.

Everyone hard at work.
Justin and Logan manually cracking the walnuts the machine missed.Shelley and I weren't a whole lot of help. But we did get some good pictures.
Taryn holding the cutest walnut ever - a mini, baby sized one.The maker of the cracker - Jay. He was so nice!Jorgen had a blast taking big buckets of walnuts and dumping them in then helping and watching them go up the conveyor belt.
Jorgen's new favorite nut!
This is a walnut before it gets harvested. They have this neat outer shell that hardens and then dries up and flakes off before you even get to the hard walnut shell.
A big walnut tree! I had no idea they grew like this! Totally fascinating.
Jorgen and Eva playing while we continued cracking:)
Trains are a necessity in Jorgen's life right now and he was even found some at the farm!
Happy kid!

The best part - we got to keep all the walnuts we cracked and sorted! Five full zip lock bags of them! THANKS TARYN!! They are soo delicious. I encourage everyone to go buy walnuts now! Support our local farmers out! ;)

Next up: Kiwi Picking and lots more...

Drive to Yosemite I saw a bunch of almond trees and I thought, "I'm sure they have machines to crack open the almonds but how do they pick them all?" What a job that would be! I'm glad they do have machines to do a lot of the work :)

Gridley is in our neighboring mission, Roseville, and your post reminded me of all the time we would drive through our mission and I would see all the orchards, vineyards, fields of everything you can imagine growing, rice paddies...all in the very fertile and huge central valley of California! I love CA and I miss the mission and also love and miss all of you! Jorgen looks so cute in that hummer! Uncle Miles always wanted a hummer. Sorry my post is so long. Bye for now.
