Well, we arrived! We left sunny California on Thursday early morning, June 11th at 1:30am and arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday afternoon! The flights went great and we were thrilled at how well the kids did on the plane! 20+ hours on a plane can definitely take it's toll on anyone, but our kids did not seem to mind the long hours in the air. We did come well equipt with toys, snacks, and their favorite blankies though, which helped huge! Because Shelley was an infant, they let us sit at the bulk head and brought a baby cot for her to sleep in. We had so much room and had an extra seat in our row so we were quite comfortable. It definitely set the bar high for expectations for our other flights coming up at the end of the summer. I think it might be smart to assume the worst and be pleasant surprised again.
We had a two hour layover in Taipea, Taiwan and had to get a picture. I want to remember all the different countries these two kids have been to, even if just at the airport.
Both kids did well on the second leg of our flights. Shelley finally decided she had had enough of no crawl/walk time so we decided to let her down in the aisle for a minute, well, she just took of crawling as fast as she could and crawled from the front of the plane to the very back (and it was a 737). It was so funny! The plane was not full at all and those who saw Shelley just smiled and thought it was funny. We let her do it a couple of times and she was having a blast.
We arrived in KL and the company driver was there to pick us up. It was so nice not having to find a taxi and deal with all of that. Our new home is happily situated right in the center of KL. We are a few minutes walking distance from a huge park, shopping (too expensive for me though...we're talking Guchi, Armani, Coach, etc.), and a lot of other things I am not familiar with yet. Our apartment/hotel is pretty spacious. It is a two bedroom with three bathrooms! There is an equipt kitchen as well. Breakfast is included each morning and the breakfast buffet is so tasty. Every morning there is something fun and new to try. I am in heaven with all the curry! They come and clean our room every day and make our beds. And there is a gym, pool, park, tennis/squash courts, convenience store, and self-serve laundrette all in the building. Pretty posh, right! And the best part is, we don't have to pay for any of it. Sweet deal! I can definitely manage this for three months:)
The only rough thing so far has been getting over jet lag. We are 15 hours ahead and the kids are feeling it! Both of them the first two nights woke up at 3am and wanted to play! Shelley did great last night but Jorgen was all perky and awake for the day at 4am. I think they will adjust completely in the next day or two.
Yesterday for their naps they were so tired. They wanted to sleep as if it was their bed time and we had a hard time waking Jorgen up. He was sooooo tired. He would not wake up for anything, well, until I offered him a cookie, he opened his eyes right up for that!
The hotel park is nice, it is on the 9th floor and is outdoors but is mostly covered which is nice for when it rains.
This is a view from our apartment window. The KL tower is in the center and then on the right you can see part of one of the Petronas Towers. I will get better shots later.
The funniest thing here is they do not provide clocks in our rooms! There is not one clock to be found! However, right outside our living room window stands these building, and the one just below the Petronas Towers has this HUGE clock on it. So we have been using that as our time. Can you see the clock?

I couldn't wait to get home from our expedition in Europe to have some computer time. First thing I did was check your blog because I have constantly been thinking about all of you!! So grateful all went well and you are getting settled in. Sounds like this is going to be a wonderful opportunity and great place to live etc....the driver to pick you up WONDERFUL< WONDERFUL! Having just spend a month in Europe and figuring out constantly how to get from point A to point B....sometimes we had a van but then you have to navigate yourself....took a few taxis, air port vans, several buses and the METRO in St. Petersburg at MAJOR rush hour with all of our luggage...after all night on a bus...can't even read a word....now that was an experience to NEVER forget. I wouldn't let Miles get more than ten feet from me but in those crowds....Miles would just yell to all six of us.....get off at the second stop and we would lunge for whatever door opened and then hope we could get off in time!!! What a crazy thing! Love the pictures of teh sleeping beauties!! I am jet lagged this AM too but don't have the international date line and 15 hours to deal with! Love you all so much!!! I can just see Shelley crawling up and down the aisles of the plane!!! Good idea....I was wondering how you could contain all the wiggles.......the baby cot was nice. I saw one of those on our Air France flight from Italy home last fall. Sorry this is so long! Can't see the clock but I am too tired to go find my glasses!
OOOOHHHH!!! I kept checking your blog to see if you had made it. I was so glad to hear the flight went well. I wish we could fly like that to Albuquerque but I don't think that's going to happen! It was so fun to hear about your trip and your new place. Playground on the 9th floor? That sounds so crazy! Wow! It seems so wonderful. Good luck getting into normal sleeping routines. I can't wait to read more!!! We miss you!
