We had heard great things about the national zoo here so we decided to take the kids Saturday morning. We were so impressed with the zoo; it was so spacious and had such great animals. Neither of our kids had ever been to the zoo!! I know, we seriously deprive them! They both LOVED it! Shelley was so in to everything she saw and kept saying, "ooo ooo, aaaa aaaa" and pointing at every new animal. She is learning her animal sounds and it was fun seeing her respond to the ones she knew. Jorgen was in heaven seeing all the animals up close an personal! I was surprised at how close we got to some of the animals. It is neat to see the amazing things that God created.

In a way, it made me kind of sad to see these beautiful creatures cooped up and not free to roam in the wild. However, I do realize that some of them are endangered so the zoo is a safe place for them. But take a look at this orangutan, he kept swinging and hitting the window and then would lay down and he looked like a carpet. He was the only orangutan in such a tight quarter, the others had a fairly big home.

This monkey looked like a statue at first, he did not move for the longest time and he is shiny and so muscular. He looks like a man! Look at his arms!

The camels were eating when we saw them and Justin has issues with people chewing, apparently camels also annoy him with their expressive chewing! :)

The zoo was full of school groups, each with their matching uniforms. I think the little Muslim girls look so cute!

Jorgen loved sitting by other kids, and they loved taking pictures with him.

Leaving the zoo, sweaty and happy!

After we got back from the zoo, Justin took Jorgen on a 'climb'. He did the stairs twice and came home looking like he went for a swim! Justin told me that when he started breathing harder, Jorgen said, "You can do it, Dad!" What a great coach!
(Justin took Jorgen on back and Shelley on front this morning on his climb - I'll get a picture next time)

Later in the afternoon, we went to China Town and picked up a few things for my family and the boys got Malaysian-style hair cuts. For both hair cuts it cost under $6! I wish I would have had my camera with me. It was Jorgen's first hair cut not by me!

The barbers used razors to trim the sides and I have never seen Justin or Jorgen with such clean lines!

That zoo looks awesome (but, I totally understand about the animals being in such a small place - I always think the same thing at the zoo, but glad that we can enjoy them at the same time :) Love the haircuts, too!
What a fun excursion! Kids always love to see animals and for them to see such a great variety - way cool!

The look on Justin's face while the camels chew is definitely very familiar....have seen that many times through the years....such big mouths and big teeth and big food I can only imagine!
