I was so happy when they finally came and got us. The anesthesiologist warned us that she may be discombobulated when she wakes up but that it will only last 15-20 minutes. When we walked into the recovery hall we could hear Shelley crying the saddest cry. It was heart breaking! When we came into her room, they gave Shelley to me and she calmed down for a moment but then just started crying again. This lasted what seemed like forever, but was probably around 15-20 minutes, like the doctor said it would be. Nothing would comfort her, she tried to suck her thumb and nurse but couldn't suck. Finally she started to nurse and calmed down. I never wanted to let her go again. Did any of your moms out there with children that had to get surgery have the same experience? It is so sad! She nursed so much and fell comfortable asleep. She has been so sleepy today but has been eating well so that is a great sign. So far she is pretty annoyed with the patch but it comes off tomorrow. I'm glad this surgery went well, it prepared us for her next surgery on the other eye (the doctor is going to keep checking her right eye to see when and if surgery is needed....he thinks she will need it but it may be two weeks away or a few months....we'll see). Also tomorrow she gets fitted for her contact. Wow, four months old and wearing contacts. Justin wants her to be a pirate for Halloween because she'll have to start patching her right eye soon to strengthen her left eye!
I know Shelley was in good hands and I know angels were around her and the doctors guiding and directing them and comforting my little sweetheart. I am so glad everything went well and that Shelley will be able to see now. This has been a huge blessing and I am so grateful to Shelley's pediatrician for catching this when she did! Thanks to all of you who kept Shelley in your prayers!

This picture was taken a few days ago but I wanted to post it. Both kids ready for bed in their pajamas. They're going to be the best of friends.

Wow, bren. I'm glad it's over for now. What a day for you. We have been praying for little shelley. I wore a patch when I was little - it's a pretty cool thing to do if you ask me. :) I love you guys. Give her a kiss for me. You're so strong and brave.
this just confirms what we already knew - little shelley must be really cute - she even looks good in a hospital gown - not many can pull that off!
thanks for the update - we love you guys!
I just knew our Bren would have pictures so we could see the before and afterand a post with all the details! What an amazing MOM and woman you are! Our hearts, thoughts and of course prayers were with you...I kept waking up through the night to calculate the time to see if you were on your way to the hospital. It did take longer and it was a long wait...but we knew and know all will be well. Love you all so much!
Her patch and nightie match! I think you could do a really great pirate baby costume. To continue the theme, I've got a cute parrot costume for Jorgen if you want...
I'm so glad it all went well! Let me know if you guys need anything. I will call you to see when I can watch Jorgen!

So glad to hear that everything went well. You guys have been in our thoughts and prayers, it is amazing how resilient children are. Shelley looks great...before and after!

bren im so glad things went well. I was so worried when you called and i called back and couldn't get a hold of you. But once we talked I was so happy to find out how well she did. Those pictures remind me of when you and i both had to wear patches over our eyes!! now we can add shelley :D. She is so cute. I love and miss you all.
yes, the minute they take your baby away is so hard. but not as hard as coming back and seeing your baby all "weirded out" from the anesthesia. well, maybe just as hard. i tried to remember to warn you, but never got around to it. sorry.
we are so glad she is doing well. and it sounds like you are too.
love you.

You are an amazing family! I'm so glad things went well.
I'm so glad she's doing well. Having children in such a vulnerable situation as surgery or being very ill, can make a mother and father crazy. Please keep us posted on little Shelley.
Besides being SOOO glad that everything went well, she looks adorable in her little patch! I bet she'll be so glad to get it off though:) She is getting so big, by the way:)
Wow, I'm sure that is hard to watch and go through. I'm glad she's doing good. She'll be in our prayers.
So glad to hear that everything went well. It is hard to see your kids have any kind of procedure done, especially surgery I'm sure. Austin had to have a cat scan once, and they had to put him under anesthesia. It was so sad to see how scared he was when they were trying to put him out and then when he was waking up and all confused. I think the patch is cute, and everytime I look at your pictures I think she is such a CUTE baby.
